Dalvinder’s 100km Ultra Challenge for NF
13 September 2021
Dalvinder started long distance walking in 2017, when her friend Katja asked her to join her for the Walk With Me 26 mile walk. Starting with short training walks, they built up their distance over time, to the 26-miler, which proved to be the start of many long walks to come. Walking with a friend is good fun, a great opportunity to put the world to rights, and share the experience. Later that year, they completed a 50km walk together.
Then in 2018, they decided to undertake the 100km Ultra Challenge Thames Path walk in 24 hours, Dalvinder raising funds for the Neuro Foundation (as it was then).
Her father Gurdial has had the benign tumours all his life, but NF2 was only diagnosed within the last 12 years and the information the charity provide has been incredibly helpful.
–"Information is liberating and so it has been a huge relief to find out what this condition is and how it may develop. I have two other family members with NF2 and it is reassuring to know that help is out there if we need it. Hence, I’m really happy to do my bit to support the charity and its work by walking crazy distances."
With challenge events now able to continue again, Dalvinder took part in her 3rd 100km Ultra Challenge walk along the Thames Path on 11th September, setting a time of 19 hours 33 minutes, beating her previous personal best of 22hrs 30 mins. She is hoping to raise £1000 for Nerve Tumours UK.
