I’m running the Northampton Half Marathon for Nerve Tumours UK. It’s my first half marathon. I only started running in May, just 17 weeks before the half Marathon.

I’m supporting Nerve Tumours UK because their mission means a great deal to me. My mum and several members of my family have Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), and I’m currently on the waiting list to be tested.

NF1 is a genetic condition that causes tumours to grow on nerves throughout the body. It’s a dominant genetic condition, which means it can be passed on from one generation to the next.

NF1 can cause many health problems, including chronic pain, learning difficulties, sight issues, bone problems, and a higher risk of certain cancers. Last year, my mum found out that NF1 had led to neuroendocrine cancer in her pancreas.

Nerve Tumours UK provides vital support, advice, and research for people living with Neurofibromatosis.

INFER (International NF Educational Resources) is a series of online educational lectures for medical professionals by leading neurofibromatosis experts. The Masterclasses take place online approximately once a month, each on a different topic, and include real-time interaction between the expert presenter and the participants. The presentations are conducted in English, with real-time audio interpretation available in 6 additional languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. A recording of each INFER masterclass is then be made available online in each language for those who could not attend an event.
