This March I will turn 50, and I wanted to undertake a challenge for a charity which has helped my family since my Great Nephew was diagnosed with NF1, a little known and rare condition. Therefore, on January 1st I started my challenge of walking 50 miles a month until the end of March. This may not seem like much for some but since I work from home (and not being a fan of exercise!) the most exercise I do most days is the school run!
My Great-Nephew, Leo, was diagnosed with NF1 at the age of 2. As a family we had never heard of NF1. We had no information on this condition and had to google to understand more. Now with the help of Nerve Tumours UK, my neice and her family have been given invaluable information and support in Leo’s journey living with NF1.
In March 2025 Leo’s MRI scan detected a tumour behind his eye, an optic pathway glioma. This is being monitored with 3 monthly MRI Scans to monitor it. Hopefully it won’t grow and cause any problems.
Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a genetic condition that causes changes in skin pigment and tumors on nerve tissue. Tumours can grow anywhere in the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord and nerves. NF1 is rare. About 1 in 2,500 is affected by NF1.
There’s currently no cure for neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), but there are treatments that can help manage the symptoms and any complications.
Nerve Tumours UK Charity has been a great support. They do a fantastic job offering advise and support to many. This is a voluntary service and it has been invaluable to us and many other families around the country.
Every donation either big or small will be huge in the eyes of Nerve Tumours UK so they can continue the invaluable work they offer.
Thank you for your your donation for mychosen charity.
Raise awareness for NF and support many people and families affected by NF.
Thank you
Tatiana
