Stannington Community Association's Easter Fête
On 21st April, Hannah and Tim organised an Easter Egg Hunt in Stannington Community Centre. The event was a great success – over 300 people attended.
Hannah said, “We are a small group of local people (we met walking our dogs nearby) who took over the running of Stannington Community Centre in February of this year. The old committee were retiring so we put ourselves forward to inject a bit of life into the centre and get it back as the hub of the community for local families.
Tim, one of our committee members, has a daughter who has NF1. She has had quite a few operations, but she remains positive, happy and is an inspiration to us all. So, we chose to have a charity raffle in aid of Nerve Tumours UK.
We decided the best way to raise awareness was to hold an Easter Fête – fortunately the weather was on our side and we had a great day in the sunshine!
Local businesses gave us some great raffle prizes and we managed to raise £300 for Nerve Tumours UK on the day! We had a great time: there was a fun dog show, bouncy castle, lots of fête games like hook-a-duck, barbeque, tombola etc, as well as craft stalls inside the centre.
It was a fantastic day, and hopefully the first of many more to come.”
