Running for Wilbur
31 July 2023
Tim: In June 2019, my beautiful wife Emma and I welcomed our third child in to the world.
Wilbur arrived on June 21st and we couldn’t have been happier.
After some months Emma noticed cafe au lait spots on Wilbur's body.
He was diagnosed with NF1 and obviously this was terrifying for both of us. We knew nothing about the condition and probably did the worst thing and googled it!
We are fully aware that there will be ups and downs along Wilbur’s journey but he is currently thriving. He does receive some physical therapy and has recently had insoles fitted which have really helped with his mobility.
An appointment with the spinal team in November is frightening but we will deal with whatever life throws at us.
Wilbur is 4 now and is the happiest, most kind and beautiful little boy.

‘Quitting for my family’ West Sussex man encourages smokers to give up this Stoptober
“I feel so much healthier now and am currently training for a 10k run in support of Nerve Tumours UK, to help my youngest son Wilbur with his condition.”
Stoptober is a 28-day stop smoking challenge that takes place every October. It is based on research that shows if you stop smoking for 28 days then you're five times more likely to successfully stop smoking for good.
Have you thought about quitting smoking, or giving up something else that you have always wanted to quit, or take a break from? Follow in Tim's footsteps - Donate £1 to Tim's fundraiser for every pack you would have smoked during October, or set up your own fundraiser in support of Nerve Tumours UK to raise awareness.

"I am running for the first time in fourteen years, taking on the Guildford 10K on 8th October 2023, just to show Wilbur that I would do anything to help him and others like him.
I hope I make him proud."
