Meet the Trustees
At Nerve Tumours UK, our Board of Trustees plays a vital role in steering the charity towards its goals, ensuring that we provide meaningful support to those affected by NF: the new medical group name for Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1, NF2-related- Schwannomatosis (NF2) and Schwannomatosis (SWN). Our trustees bring their diverse expertise and experiences to shape the strategic direction and governance of the charity, helping to make a real difference to the lives of our community members. Richard Goode
Chair
Richard Goode is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and wasthe Managing Director of Fletcher King PLC for 15 years and is now a Non-ExecutiveDirector of the company. His expertise in commercial property fund managementbrings a valuable perspective to the charity’s financial oversight. Richard, based in Surrey, has a personal connection to our cause as his eldest son has NF1. His dedication to the charity goes beyond professional commitment, driven by a personal desire to improve the lives of those with NF.
Johnathan Bruce
Vice Chair
With over 25 years of experience in the Social Care Sector, Jonathan Bruce offers extensive knowledge in care services and business management. Jonathan, currently the Chairman and Owner of Fitzgerald Fostering, previously served as CEO of Sodexo Homecare. His commitment to Nerve Tumours UK is inspired by his son Henry, who was diagnosed with NF1. Through both personal and professional channels, Jonathan actively supports the charity's mission, providing guidance and fundraising support.
Professor Rosalie Ferner
Professor Rosalie Ferner, a Consultant Neurologist at Guy's and St.Thomas'; Hospital, brings profound medical expertise to Nerve Tumours UK. As former Chairof the charity's Medical Advisory Board and a longstanding leader in NF services, she has championed holistic, multidisciplinary care for individuals with NF. Her specialist focus on tumour suppressor conditions and her commitment to advancing medical understanding and support systems are invaluable to the charity's mission.
Michael Fry
Barrister Michael Fry, who specialises in planning, regulatory, and public law, brings a deep understanding of public affairs and charity law. His son, Freddie, was diagnosed with NF1 as a baby, strengthening Michael’s resolve to advocate for the NF community. His experience as a former military press spokesperson and his background in social and political sciences further enrich his contributions, particularly in the areas of advocacy and fundraising.
Rohan Chanmugam
Rohan Chanmugam, Founder and Chair of Clevercoms Ltd, specialises in corporate strategy and financial management. His experience with global organisations and expertise in telecoms, media, and technology offer Nerve Tumours UK fresh perspectives on innovation and strategic growth. As a Freeman of the City of London and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers of London, Rohan brings an extensive network and insights that are crucial for the charity’s future.
Professor Meena Upadhyaya
Professor Meena Upadhyaya, an esteemed researcher in Cancer and Genetics, has been part of the NF1 research community since 1986. Her vast body of work, with over 200 published papers and numerous book contributions, positions her as an authority in the field. Passionate about supporting NF1 families in Wales and beyond, she brings a valuable scientific and compassionate lens to her role, continuously striving to improve the quality of life for NF patients.
Matt Jones
Matt Jones, a Director and Deputy Fund Manager at M&G plc, holds significant expertise in structured finance. Inspired by his younger brother with NF1, Matt has supported the charity through fundraising initiatives and is dedicated to advancing the charity’s objectives. His background in mathematics and finance provides a solid foundation for his role as trustee, where he focuses on helping the charity make sound financial decisions to secure a sustainable future.
