Nerve Tumours UK Ambassadors
NTUK is delighted to introduce you to our three new ambassadors, Emily Owen, Georgia Baum & Amit Ghose.
A charity ambassador is a person, who works to raise awareness and promote initiatives. Acting as a bridge between the organisation and the community, ambassadors inspire others to get involved by sharing the charity’s mission and attending events, whether through public speaking, social media advocacy, or building personal connections, they play a vital role in helping charities achieve their goals and therefore make a positive impact.
Our reach and the demand on our services is ever growing, but we are a small team, and so we are truly grateful to Emily, Georgia & Amit, that they have joined the NTUK team to particularly help spread awareness of NF, and the role that the charity can play in helping the community.
Together, our patrons, ambassadors, trustees, staff and volunteers have created a foundation on which to build the Nerve Tumours UK Specialist Support Network, which provides life-changing, and in some cases life-saving, support and advice for children and adults diagnosed with NF: Neurofibromatosis Type 1, NF2-related-Schwannomatosis and Schwannomatosis.
Emily Owen
Emily Owen is an award winning author and speaker. She speaks on all sorts of topics, including disability, communication, ethics and faith.
Diagnosed with NF2-SWN as a teenager, Emily experienced the full force of the genetic condition. NF2 has caused Emily to lose her hearing, left her with facial weakness and with difficulty walking.
Supporting the NF and Rare Diseases Community, by being open about the realities of NF2, Emily uses her own experiences to encourage others and raise awareness for a widely unknown condition.
Emily was previously a trustee of Nerve Tumours UK for 12 years from 2012 to 2024.
Georgia Alexandra Baum
Georgia was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 at the age of nine. Living with a lifelong genetic condition has brought its share of challenges - from ongoing medical treatments to the social and emotional impact of symptoms. But through it all, she has learned to face life with resilience, compassion, and adopted a strong voice for awareness.
"I believe in the power of education and empathy to make a difference - hence why I used my university degree in education and early years to highlight the need for recognition amongst the sector and to inspire young people to embrace and be confident in who they are."
She is passionate about sharing her story, especially with young adults, thinking about moving onto further education, and the educational establishments themselves.
Amit Ghose
Amit Ghose is a DEI Business Partner at University Hospitals Birmingham and a passionate advocate for inclusion, identity, and confidence-building. Through his growing social media platforms, Amit shares his lived experiences and inspires others to embrace their differences and lead with authenticity.
Amit, who has NF1, has already been invited to speak at many events including those hosted by The Children's Tumor Foundation (Europe), the Centre for Appearance Research & NF Patients United Best Practice Summit.
