NTUK Virtual Coffee Mornings
Join NTUK’s Charity Director, Karen Cockburn and other members of the NTUK
team in one of our new virtual coffee morning meet-ups.
After we have hosted our regional information days around the UK, we often receive letters or emails from attendees saying how grateful they were, not just for the medical information, but to meet fellow members of the community, and in many cases we hear that new friendships have been forged. Being able to chat openly to a friend, is so important for all of us. But not everyone can get out and about, or travel to these events, and so we thought it was about time that we brought an event directly to your armchairs.
Pre-Christmas, we had reached out to the NF community to ask what you thought about our services, how we could improve upon them, and if there was more that we should be doing. We understand that not everyone wants to take part in a survey, and although we were delighted with the number of responses we received, we felt we needed to hear more.
We want everyone to have their say, and so we thought we would reach out to the furthest corners of our community by running a series of virtual coffee mornings over the next year, commencing in May. These virtual coffee mornings will enable everyone to feel heard and connected no matter the barrier, bringing our community closer together, helping us to raise awareness of what we do, all whilst ensuring everyone can participate from a space they feel comfortable.
Your participation will also help us build a better understanding of the ongoing issues faced in the NF community, improving our services and best practice. We want people to feel at ease to engage in an open and honest two way discussion, by creating a space where everyone has the chance to be heard, and for that very reason we've decided it's best to limit attendance to 22 attendees, per coffee morning. We have also decided to host this at 12 noon, in case anyone is at work, and wishes to join over their lunch break, so as not to exclude anyone.
Our first virtual coffee morning will be held on 7th May so if you'd like to get involved, click on the link below to register your interest.
Karen will be joined by Carolyn Smyth, Specialist NF Nurse, who operates our helpline, on this occasion. Obviously it will not be an event for specific medical questions to be raised, you can do that in private by chatting with Carolyn on her helpline days. However general questions can be raised.
We very much look forward to meeting you all on the 7th.
