Megan’s NF1 story
17 May 2023
Hi! My name's Megan and I was diagnosed with NF1 in 2011. Since then I have also been diagnosed with Scoliosis, Kyphosis and Dural Ectasia.
In 2021, I had 2 procedures - one to remove a benign Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour pressing on the nerve controlling my arm function, and one to correct Critical Renal Artery Stenosis. The months before the surgeries were some of the scariest of my life so far - having 2 cancer scares and almost losing my kidney was a lot to process, and I couldn't have got through it without the support of my specialists in Birmingham and Manchester, along with my friends and family.
Fast forward 2 years and I'm better than ever - I've had no further issues since both surgeries, I've working my dream job in a theatre, I've continued pursuing my passion for cosplay and I'm getting ready for my 4th season as a scare actor.
NF1 is part of me, but it doesn't define me. I will always live my life to the fullest and not let my diagnosis stand in my way.
