Meet Jessica, new Specialist NF Nurse
26 March 2024
Jessica York is based in Plymouth, working alongside Helen Tomkins and other healthcare professionals, supporting families across Devon and Cornwall
My name is Jessica from Plymouth. I joined the Nerve Tumours UK community at the beginning of March 2024 as a Neurofibromatosis Specialist Nurse.
I registered as an Adult Nurse in 2018 and have worked within the care industry since 2012. I have recently moved over from my role as a Junior Sister on an acute ward. Before that, I worked on a surgical ward as a newly qualified nurse. I have specialised in a variety of areas, mainly in high dependency, surgical and oncology care.
–"I have always had a passion to provide the best standard to all my patients and their circle. I value the importance of person centred care and supporting patients in their time of need."
I have particular interests in oncology and research. I am currently halfway through my graduate certificate professional development in health and social care at university. I have always enjoyed studying, learning and furthering my knowledge, to improve my quality of care.
When I am not at work, I enjoy getting out in all weathers with my family, especially swimming and being by the sea. I love to cook and bake, with an overgrowing pile of cookbooks by my side.
I am already enjoying my new role very much and feel very welcomed into the team. I feel honoured in my role, that I am already a supportive branch for patients to talk to for advice and support. I value building rapports with the patients I meet and knowing that I will be there to support them throughout their lives with their long term condition.
