Jo’s Shine A Light Family Fun Day
13 May 2024
We started supporting Nerve Tumours UK back in 2018, after our little girl Hettie was diagnosed with NF1, aged 2 years old.
Hettie is now 9 years old and lives a full healthy life, although Hettie is not affected by NF1, we like to support others living with this condition. It’s important for Hettie to understand her condition and not be afraid, plus helping others less fortunate.
Each year we like to think of ways we can raise money and awareness for NF1 and get all our friends and family involved.
We have done various fun runs, and a 10k run. This year we wanted to go one better and arrange a Family Fun Day, it was brilliant!
We had a children’s entertainer who also got the adults involved, a glitter bar, a silent disco and DJ’s to end the night.
We also did a raffle with some great prizes from local businesses. It was a huge success.
– Jo"We were very lucky to have Dr. Shruti Garg join us on the day. Shruti is a family friend and kindly said a few words for us. We will continue to support Nerve Tumours UK for their amazing work and support to people living with NF1 and NF2. Although we haven’t had to personally contact the charity for medical advice, as we are under the care of Manchester, we may need their services and advice in the future."
"Karen, the Charity Director of Nerve Tumours UK, has asked me to personally thank you, Joanna, along with your family and friends for your continuing support of the charity."
"Not only for the fun day that you have organised today, but for all the challenges you have hosted over the last few years.
Since 2018, you have encouraged and organised members of your family and friends to take part in various running events upto, and including, 10km runs.
Also in 2021, you organised the 2.6km Garden Challenge, with 17 children completing the challenge. Given the number of children involved, this was probably a major challenge in itself!
Combined, you have raised a wonderful sum of money which, to put into context, has funded over four months of Specialist NF Nursing time, and in doing so, you have helped many hundreds of people. We are hugely grateful, as the charity relies totally on donations and fundraising events like these, to fund our Specialist NF Support services.
At the same time, you are also helping to raise awareness of NF1, which is one of the charity's key objectives as so few, even amongst the medical profession, know of the condition.
We can only help more people by raising funds and getting the word out there, and so on behalf of all of the NF community, a huge thank you!
And now, I hope the sun is shining, and you all have a fun packed day.
With my very best wishes,
Karen"
