CAR Research - exploring family planning decisions
16 January 2024
Dr Kerry Montgomery is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Appearance Research at the University of the West of England. She is currently working on a study, exploring family planning decisions by people with a visible difference which can be inherited (e.g. Neurofibromatosis). The study will explore what influences decisions about having children and also what support would be helpful when making these decisions.
Research Advisors requirements
Dr Montgomery is putting together a team of Research Advisors to help shape this research and make it as meaningful and helpful as possible. If you answer ‘yes’ to the questions below, please consider getting in touch with Dr Montgomery:
- Do you have a condition which affects your appearance that is inheritable?
- Have you considered having children, or do you have children?
- Are you comfortable speaking on the topic of having children?
- Do you want to help to shape support resources available to people with a visible difference who are thinking about having a family?
If you have answered ‘yes’ here is a little bit more detail about what would be required as a Research Advisor:
- Attendance at two online group meetings (maximum six people) – the first in early February 2024. The second will be confirmed later in 2024.
- Up to one hour of your time prior to the meeting to review research materials so you can provide feedback in the meeting.
As meetings are online. you will need access to a computer and be able to use meeting apps such as Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams. All meetings and written material will be in English, therefore you will also need to be fluent in English to help at this time.
All Research Advisors will be reimbursed for their two hours of participation (1 hour meeting and 1 hour preparation) at a rate of £25 per hour which can be paid by bank transfer, vouchers or a donation on your behalf to charity (please contact me for further information on payment options).
We would like to recruit people with different conditions and a range of experiences. Depending on the number of responses received, we may not be able to offer everyone a place on the Research Advisory Group.
To express interest, please complete this short form – it will take less than 2 minutes.
