Awareness Walks: Building Community, understanding and support
The Idea: Set up a walk that has a meaning for you, and at the same time show support for the NF community, in your area of the UK.
Common Grounds: Health and wellbeing, enjoy the beauty of nature, and raise awareness of rare diseases. Integrate seasonal activities - for example, an evening walk with candles or torches, Shining a light on NF, in World NF Awareness month, is just one possibility.
Why Walk?
Walk for health: Enjoy the benefits of a refreshing outdoor experience and walk for both mind
and body. You can make this recurring, and create a walk on a specific day or date.
Chat & connect: Meet others, who are passionate about healthcare.
Raise awareness: Help spread the word about rare diseases and the vital work being done to support those affected. We can support you with information material on NF, etc.
Advertise: These walks need to be open to all — whether you’re affected yourself with NF, are a healthcare professional, family member, patient advocate or simply want to make a difference by meeting up with others - advertise on local social media, publications or meeting points i.e. libraries, hospital boards, town halls etc.
Why not: Get sponsored to walk a distance of your choosing! Team up with the family or trek solo and complete any distance you want. Set yourself an epic trek to complete over a week or walk a shorter distance in one go. Build your own community with a common goal to raise awareness for NF.
Rules & Regulations: Don't forget check first, and to find out if you need permission to walk in large groups along your selected routes, via your Local Authorities
